City of Glenwood Committees of the Council
Standing committees continue indefinitely until terminated by the Council. Standing committees shall work with appropriate staff and department representatives to inform and educate the Council on existing city programs and issues, to provide an opportunity to explore the implications of policy alternatives as part of the policy development process, and to serve in an advisory capacity to the Council as a whole in reviewing policy matters referred to them by the Council, and/or as designated by the committee description.
Each committee shall consist of three (3) council members appointed by the Mayor and may be revised at
the Mayor’s discretion for the effectiveness of the Committee. Appointments shall be made at the first
Council meeting of the new calendar year for one year terms, with one (1) council member being designated the committee chairperson.
No formal action will be taken at Committee meetings. When a quorum is present, the City Clerk shall be in attendance to take minutes. All City Council Members are welcome to attend each Committee meeting.
Public Works Committee
This committee reviews issues which relate to road and street maintenance, trails, sidewalks, transportation, transportation planning, private utilities, Glenwood Municipal Utilities, recycling, refuse collection, public parking, septic systems, aquatic center and city owned buildings. Budget and Finance Committee This committee reviews issues related to proposed budgets, current financial status, TIFs, tax abatements, budget amendments, fee structures, employee salary issues and contract negotiations.
Public Administration Committee
This committee reviews issues related to policies governing the function and operation of municipal offices through its departments, boards and administrative officers, personnel management policies, working conditions and employee benefits, maintenance of public records and documents, public relations and information, comprehensive municipal insurance coverage, policy areas including comprehensive plan, zoning, annexation, building codes and housing.
Public Safety Committee
This committee reviews issues related to police, fire and emergency services and other public safety issues, contract issues with service providers.
Parks and Recreation Committee
This committee is to review, analyze and recommend policies regarding amphitheater, parks, park facilities, and their use for educational, recreational, and public activities. Special committees are established by majority vote of the City Council on a temporary basis to make recommendations on specific issues. Special committees are terminated after they have completed their assignment. Special committees shall consist of three (3) council members appointed by the Mayor, with one (1) council member designated as chairperson.
